What the browser changes—and what it leaves alone

Resizing is different from simply changing the width and height. A non-square image either needs cropping or padding to avoid visible distortion. Fill mode preserves proportions while cropping; Fit mode preserves every pixel and uses the chosen background to complete the square.

JPEG is usually the smallest broadly compatible option for photographic artwork. PNG is useful for flat graphics or when transparency matters outside an audio tag. WebP can be efficient for websites, but many audio players still expect JPEG or PNG inside metadata.
